Dear Type-A Mom... |5 Challenges of a Type-A Mom and Why it's Worth it

Dear Type-A Mom,

First of all… You are not alone. You are enough. You will make it through. You are a great mom!

Being a mom has been the most wonderful thing to ever happen to me. However, this wonderful life change comes with so many struggles. It's tough dealing with everything being a hot mess, never knowing how long things will take or when she will sleep, and not knowing how to solve the problems that come with being a mom.

Before becoming a mom, I was planned (yet able to be spontaneous) and always punctual. In fact, I was early everywhere I went. If someone said to meet at a specific time, I always stuck to it. It was important to me to be on time. I made plans with friends and family. My life was pretty consistent. If any issues came up, I could figure out how to fix them.  I mean, I am a math teacher after all! Solving problems is literally my job!

5 Reasons being a Type-A mom is difficult...

1. No matter how prepared you are, it still takes a long time to get out the door.

I swear, if there is one more poop explosion on my way out the door.... but really, it's always something!

2. Schedules are *mostly* a thing of the past.

As soon as I'm convinced we have a pretty consistent schedule...the schedule changes. I like to say that Parker has a flexible schedule. 95% of the time, she naps for 45 minutes...sometimes she naps for 2 hours...sometimes she doesn't nap at all :)

3. You can’t make plans for a specific time because you never really know when your baby will take a nap or wake up from their nap.

Like I said above, naps are anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. so that makes things challenging. It has helped me to focus more on how long she is awake between her naps. At about 3 months, she was awake for about 1.5-2 hours in between. Now, at 5 months, she's about 2-2.5 hours in between...sometimes 3! I just tell my friends now that our breakfast date is a soft 9:45 or that we'll meet up for that beer at a soft 7:30. They're cool with it because they're my friends <3

4. You’re always wingin’ it

Yep. Just go with it mama.

5. There is no right answer

Oh, your baby wants to eat every second? Oh, your baby only naps for 5 seconds? Oh, she's making weird noises and you want to know why!?! We're about to introduce solids...like what foods? How often? What if she's allergic? How to I do it the RIGHT way!? Sorry, there is no right answer. There is no right way to do something as a mom.  You just have to pick something you are comfortable with and go with it. This too shall pass. (This one is toughest for me since I'm such a fixer!!)

While these things make being a mom challenging,  I am learning each day. I am learning to become a better mom as time goes on. You always think that the job of being a mom is to teach your kid to be the best person they can be...But each day I realize, that Parker is the one who is really teaching me. She motivates me and shows me what it means to be patient, to enjoy each moment, to love unconditionally.  She teaches me to go with the flow and improvise quickly. She teaches me that time goes by quickly and stressing about little things gets in the way of the time we can enjoy together.

When things get tough, just look at your baby and remember that the love between you to is truly magical <3
