DIY Family Room Makeover on a Budget | DIY Shiplap and Fireplace Makeover
This family room makeover truly leaves me speechless! We wanted to update this space so badly, but we had recently finished the laundry room (which was pretty pricey). Check out the transformation here. We also have baby #2 on the way, so we didn’t want to spend all of our money with this project.
I mean, it was still expensive, don’t get me wrong. BUUUUT we found some great ways to save money, like doing everything ourselves, painting the fireplace, and doing our own DIY shiplap. The DIY shiplap alone saved us about $400 (it’s a huge wall!)
Before, it looked like it was straight out of the 70s. LIke wow. And I know that in like 30 years when we sell our house, the people that move in will probably say the same thing but hey, I love it :)
For more details on exactly how we did the fireplace, read here!
So what all did we do?
Removed the mantel and ran cable through the wall so we could mount the TV
Painted the existing panelng and put up the plywood planks.
Painted the shiplap and painted the fireplace. Read more about the fireplace HERE!
Built benches, built the mantel, and stained them the same color.
AND THERE YOU HAVE IT! 1.5 months later, the project is complete.
